FAQ

Common questions

The questions our growers get asked most, answered plainly. Still unsure? Come and see us, or give us a call and we will help.

Do I need an appointment, or can I just turn up?

Just turn up. We are open seven days and there is always a grower on the floor who can walk you through the range and help you choose.

Can you help me work out what will grow in my garden?

That is the whole point of us. Tell us your soil, your aspect, the wind and what you are trying to achieve, and we will match plants to your actual conditions rather than sell you whatever is in flower.

Do you grow your own plants?

Most of our stock is grown on site and hardened off outdoors, so it shifts into your garden without the shock that pampered indoor-grown plants get. We will always tell you the provenance of a specific plant if you ask.

Do you do deliveries or larger orders for landscapers?

Yes. We supply home gardeners and trade alike. For a bigger job, talk to us about quantities and grades and we will sort pricing and a delivery that works.

What is the best time of year to plant?

Autumn and winter are ideal for most things because the roots settle before summer, but with the right aftercare you can plant most of our stock year round. We will tell you what suits the season when you visit.

Can you recommend a buxus alternative that will not get blight?

Yes, there are several tough, blight-resistant hedging plants that give the same crisp formal look. Ask a grower and we will line a few up for you to compare.
